File Scrub, cyber security software

Personally Identifiable Information (PII)

Overview

Because of rising concern about finding PII in documents, the File Scrub developers have created a keyword file containing advanced regular expressions that can detect PII. This keyword file will use java-compatible regular expression notation as required by the File Scrub keyword search.

PII includes information such as Social Security number, date or place of birth, mother's maiden name, credit card or bank account number, clearance level, and medical, criminal, or employment history. This File Scrub PII keyword file can help detect possible Social Security numbers, places/dates of birth, names, credit card or bank account numbers, and Z numbers. The other types of PII are impractical to include in a regular expression search.

Download

Download the PII keyword file and the PII tutorial by clicking the link below. The tutorial file also serves as the PII test file. For first-time use, we recommend downloading this tutorial file and running the PII keyword search against it to become familiar with the log messages associated with finding possible PII in a review. Full instructions on settings and review details are in the actual tutorial file.

Non–IE browser users must right-click on the link (Mac users: Control + click) and select the "Save Link Target As ..." menu item.

If you are unable to download the file, please contact us at filescrub.lanl.gov.
